LOCAL start-up Bio Base Solutions (M) Sdn Bhd is aiming to make a mark in the information and communications technology (ICT) security business with its biometrics-based solutions offerings.

Its chief executive officer John Chong said the company - which focuses on logical access security, physical access security, system design, research and development and hardware integration - has come up with a strategy to make inroads in the retail ICT security market.
"At Bio Base Solutions, we believe that fingerprint technology, combined with well-thought software applications which is simple to operate and are reasonably priced, will enable customers to embrace the most practical and cost-effective business applications," he told Computimes in Kuala Lumpur.

As such, Chong said the company is making available a solution called U.are.U from US-based DigitalPersona Inc that has an application suite that includes one-touch logon, one-touch unlock, one-touch Internet and private space.

"Although the solution comes in three flavours - personal, workstation and server software - our primary market is personal users. We hope to push between 500 and 1,000 packages of the version that costs RM499 per package."

The solution which supports Windows operating system helps protect applications, electronic mail (e-mail), files and Web sites from prying eyes; replace passwords for Windows and Web sites with one touch; and encrypt and lock files with the fingerprint.

Other than fingerprint ICT security, Bio Base Solutions' business activities also include fingerprint physical access control, fingerprint time management system, customised fingerprint solutions, and online Internet fingerprint authentication system. Its customers include small and medium-sized enterprises and entities within the public and private sectors.

Bio Base Solutions, which was established in 2000, has its headquarters in Seri Kembangan. The company is in the midst of applying for Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) status.
