NSW: Pregnant woman and two men rescued from beach rip

Two men are fighting for their lives tonight after being caught in a strong at a southern
Sydney beach.

A pregnant woman also had to be rescued by surf lifesavers at Elouera Beach, near Cronulla
at about 6.30pm (AEDT) today.

The police spokesman said a man in his 40s is on life support at Sutherland Hospital.

The pregnant woman, aged 25, was also admitted to Sutherland Hospital and is reported
to be in satisfactory condition.

The spokesman says another man in his mid-20s, was flown by Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter
to St George Hospital, where he is in a serious condition in intensive care.

Surf Life Saving Australia spokesman STEPHEN LEAHY says all three were treated by New
South Wales Ambulance and Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter medical crews and surf lifesavers
before being taken to hospital.

Meanwhile, hundreds of bathers at Australia's best-known beach, Bondi, were evacuated
from the water after a shark sighting this evening.

Police say a shark, possibly a Hammerhead, was sighted off Bondi Beach at about 7pm (AEDT).
