Fed: National crime coordination centre to open today
Justice Minister CHRIS ELLISON will today open the Australian Federal Police transnationalcrime coordination centre in Canberra.
Senator ELLISON says the centre will be a focal point for the nation's crime fightingauthorities to target terrorism, drug trafficking and people smuggling.
He says the centre will be a round-the-clock point of contact for all authorities fightingtransnational crime.
It will incorporate the existing national assessment centre as well as three overseasdesks which coordinate AFP officers across the globe.
Senator ELLISON says the centre will be the nexus between the AFP's activities andthe nation's intelligence community.
